Like many of the works of Rayastre, ‘Joie de la belle année’ has a translucent quality which reflects the world of the artist. The artist has experienced his own death and rebirth in a timeless and formless universe, his personal enlightenment, in which he experienced himself as a transparent, translucent being, a mere molecule in the hands of God… All elements in the work have a personal meaning for the artist, although some of the meanings stay obscured, even for the artist, especially during the making process. In this process the artist lets the universe speak through him, himself becoming transparent so to speak, letting his hands become the hands of God…
