Joie de l’été (Joy Of Summer) is part two of a series which celebrates the four seasons. It’s an ode to nature and inner nature. The viewer is welcomed into a radiant world of flowers and butterflies by three animals, inviting the viewer to take a step within. The theatrical set up of the
work has a stage like character. The central image gives associations with one’s inner world. This is strengthened by the use of a radiograph of a human interior, with flowers and butterflies floating into an endless depth and enlightened from deep within in a warm light. The use of materials (taxidermy of 50+ years old (the artist only uses old
taxidermy)), the slight deterioration of the fire gilded bronze ornaments and natural elements like flowers and shells give a timeless quality to this cabinet of wonders, detached from modern contemporary age.
