Tableau mort depicting the cosmic constellation of eye-egg. In the
mannerist tradition it embraces the deformed aspects of one’s mind. It’s a work pregnant with mystical symbolism and multi layered. It’s a darker aspect in the world of the artist whose themes are both angelic and hellish. The eye can be drawn outwards and inwards. The fish are eating eyeballs. The egg is symbol of being born or reborn. But the egg is broken. The aura around the head of the baby ostrich in the form of three twigs is the dying light but the pose is brave, almost disrespectful. The egg is the eye. Water is the symbol for feeling but the waves are wild and overflowing the small table on which this theatrical scene is strangely positioned.
